It is not necessary in Windows for obvious reasons because the OEM software works and is far more functional.įanboys paying Apple to be alpha testers for ARM based Macs may be in for a rude awakening about what does not work but I suspect they, like the majority of MacOS users, really do not need more than access to a few text and mostly web based apps and won't notice that they can't do what they never needed to do.This product detection tool installs software on your Microsoft Windows device that allows HP to detect and gather data about your HP and Compaq products to provide quick access to support information and solutions. Most scanners can basically operate with a universal driver hence that basic but usable function has been built into MacOS. OEMs almost never ever update peripheral software, like scanner operating software, because it is not worth the cost and hassle of going through Apple for the small-compared-to-Windows customer base. Hence OEMs rarely "update" drivers, Apple may or may not. This is a major issue that does not endear Apple to peripheral OEMs. The driver model does not completely change with every version of MacOS but the need to be "signed" by Apple does. Unlike Catalina, this OS feels solid right out of the gate. The images printed perfectly with no color management issues. Every setting and control item appeared to be present. While there were cosmetic changes to every window, requiring a tiny bit of searching for settings, everything worked flawlessly. I printed several images from PS CC to my Canon Pixma Pro 100. While a few (unrecognizable file names) files were segregated out and put into a Security folder and another folder as unusable in this OS, everything came over configured correctly.īig Sur did not like my copies of PS CS6 or Illustrator CS6 and CS5. It was the easiest and most complete Migration Assistant experience I have ever had in a Mac OS install/Upgrade. The install booted into the external SSD and offered Migration Assistant to transfer everything from my internal Mojave SSD. I downloaded Big Sur today and installed onto an external SSD. IMac 2019, 27" Retina 5K, i9 CPU, Radeon Pro Vega 8 GB GPU, 64 GB The Epson support pages, or at least I’ve checked for an old R3000 and the new P900, do not list any driver download for Big Sur.Ĭan you still print correctly with the Catalina version or does the system integrates proper Epson updates which are still not listed on Epson websites? I guess some of you already updated to Big Sur on your Macs. I should know when I get back from work today. I am hoping all apps will run: CCC, QImage, Canon Pro 10 driver, DxOPL2, Toast18, Audio Hijack, and DVD player. If you do upgrade backup the OS with CarbonCop圜loner or similar beforehand!Īt the present time, I am downloading Big Sur on my 2019 MBP which will then install automatically. Even then it will apparently be a 'month or so' before Adobe's apps work natively with the new AS M1 CPU. I suggest don't buy a new printer unless there's a proper OEM driver available for macOS, as there isn't for some consumer printers!Ĭheck with printer manufacturer's website to see if there's a driver for your version of macOS.Īt present I don't see any compelling reason to upgrade to Big Sur, unless you buy a new Mac, which will come with it. I suggest that if printing is very important to you wait until you hear (from reliable sources) that it works with your printer with FULL colour management and is very reliable before even thinking of upgrading! Probably best to wait for version 11.03 at least! To check for macOS Big Sur 11 support for your Epson product. Whatever you do, don't use the Apple Airprint driver, as this prevents proper printing with Application Colour Management. Epson will provide macOS Big Sur 11 drivers and software for Epson products on an on-going basis. It's possible that printer drivers now have to be 'signed' by Apple? Haven't heard of any proper, as in OEM Canon, Epson, HP, etc., drivers being available yet.
